Module learning aims: | Students will gain an understanding and skills necessary to evaluate explanatory models offered in archaeology as well as critical look at the role of archaeology in contemporary world. They will also gain an ability to put a knowledge into practice while conducting their own research projects. Students will understand differences and similarities as well as consequences of different ways of practicing archaeology in contemporary world. They will gain the skills necessary to consciously choose a particular model or a way of interpreting the past as well as to define the role of archaeology at present. |

This lecture is a synthesis of problems regarding contemporary theories and methodology of archeology. It addresses issues that relate to archaeology as a discipline as well as potentials and threats it faces in twenty-first century. Of crucial importance is a question concerning social role of archaeology in addressing by it new issues / research themes. These problems are discusses in relation to such topics as: social and cultural change in archaeological perspective, issues of agency, identity and power and the role of archeology in their approaching and constructing. |
