Presentation of ceramic sources, methods of their description and classification. Familiarizing students with introductory publications concerning pottery.

Year 1

Practical classes aimed at getting knowledge about the most commonly found category of archaeological data - pottery and its description from the angle of their usefulness in archaeological interpretation. The main objective of the classes is discovering information potential of pottery and familiarizing students with the basic concept and terms. The course is taught in small groups with extensive use empirical material.

1) Students shall gain a basic knowledge in prehistoric ceramic ware production as well as its research value in archaeology.

2) Students shall gain an understanding of the basics of pottery production and the differences arising between ceramic materials of particular periods in prehistory.

3) Students shall gain the necessary skills for an initial identification, on the basis of ceramic material, of the most important cultural groups in the prehistory of Polish land.

Credit based on attendance and final exam.
