  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Module learning aims:

Defining the aims of learning and teaching a foreign language (L2) in primary and secondary school;

Providing students with knowledge about basic principles of L2 teaching in the communicative approach;

Providing students with the principles of language use (including the use of the native language) by the teacher in an L2 lesson;

Acquainting students with the principles and techniques of introducing and practicing new language (vocabulary and grammar);

Providing students with the principles of planning and organizing L2 courses and lessons.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student:

Knows the aims of teaching English in the Polish school at primary and secondary levels in relation to educational documentation;

Can select the right teaching materials for a given group of learners, considering their specific needs;

Can formulate explanations, questions, instructions and feedback in L2 and L1, taking into account learners' level;

Can organize work in the classroom;

Knows the principles and techniques of introducing and practicing language subsystems (vocabulary and grammar);

Can plan an L2 lesson with the use of appropriately selected audiovisual aids.
