  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Module learning aims:

Providing students with knowledge about the techniques of teaching and assessment, and about principles of organizing teaching in secondary school

Revising knowledge about basic principles of teaching a foreign language within communicative and task-based approaches

Acquainting students with principles of planning and organizing teaching content within a language course and individual lessons

Revising knowledge about the principles of teacher language use (including L1 use) in a foreign language lesson

Developing the knowledge of principles of teaching new language (subsystems and skills)

Developing the skill of assessing and testing learning progress

Developing the skill of analyzing, selecting and designing teaching materials

Enhancing reflections about one's own teaching practice

Acquainting students with ELT literature (mainly in English)

Developing group interaction and collaboration skills

Credits in the psychology-pedagogy-didactics modules within the teaching specialization at the BA level

Methods of teaching for learning outcomes achievement:

Discussion, work with texts, case analysis, problem-based teaching, activating methods, e.g. brainstorming, groupwork

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student:

Knows the aims of teaching English in the Polish school at primary and secondary levels in relation to educational documentation, including the National Curriculum and selected syllabuses;

Can effectively plan lessons considering individual variation in learners, including learners with special educational needs;

Can formulate explanations, questions, instructions and feedback in L2 and L1, taking into account learners' level;

Can use appropriate techniques of introducing and practicing language subsystems and skills;

Can design and implement activities developing learners' learning strategies;

Knows and understands the sources of language errors and can effectively use various correction techniques;

Knows and understands different types of assessment and testing, and can design appropriate tools for the assessment of learners' knowledge and skills;

Can critically evaluate teaching materials and adapt them to their own needs, as well as designing their own materials;

Can plan an L2 lesson and a sequence of lessons with the use of appropriately selected audiovisual aids, including ICT technology;

Understands the need to systematically develop their own teaching skills.
