Module learning aims: | I Give students a good understanding of what media writing is and what makes it effective. II Help students develop the linguistic skills which will enable them to write short media texts effectively. III Introduced students to basic media texts such as the news story so that they learn common styles and structures used in media writing. IV By analysing and writing texts, enable the students to plan, structure and write effective news stories, blog entries, opinion pieces and reviews. |

Short description: |
(First semester of a two-semester course. Next semester: 15-COEP-MW-ES-22.) The course firstly aims to give students a good understanding of what media writing is and what makes it effective. The course will then work on the linguistic skills which will enable students to write short media texts effectively. Next, the students will be introduced to basic media texts such as the news story so that they learn common styles and structures used in media writing. Finally, by doing lots of practice in both analysing and writing texts, the students are able to plan, structure and write effective news stories, blog entries, opinion pieces and reviews. |

(First semester of a two-semester course. Next semester: 15-COEP-MW-ES-22.) Learning contents: 1. Writing: short news, longer news, blog posts, reviews, articles. 2. Independent and joint text editing to improve grammar, structure and make texts more worthy of publication 3. Preparation of a portfolio consisting of texts whose composition has been discussed and practiced during the course. |
