ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 0 OR 3.00 OR 2.00 (depends on study program) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The course objective is to familiarize students with selected information related to the history, culture, science, politics and economy of the baltic countries: Lithuania and Latvia.

The course provides general information about history, culture, science and politics of baltic countries: Lithuania and Latvia.

Full description:

Art, history, literature and economy of the Baltic countries.

The role of studying literature and culture of this region.

The world of art and literature, famous modern poets, painters and sculpturers of Lithuania and Latvia.

Knowledge of Baltic administrative structures and politics, political and administrative institutions in Baltic states, such as: a government, a parliament, political parties, administration.

The development of Baltic democracies.

Selected economical issues.

Analysis and comparison of different economical figures

Individual work on specific problems, preparing speeches, presentations and teamworking

Learning outcomes:

After successefully finishing the course, the student:

- has the wide knowledge of the baltic countries

- understands the role of studying literature and culture of this region

- is able to analyse and compare different economical figures

- can conclude main problems

- can work individualy, preparing speaches, presentations and with the group of people

is able to prepare and present oral and written speaches

- is able to take part in discussion

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Active participation in the course. Passing the control tests (every four units, minimum 61%) ana a final test; writing a term essay on a selected topic.

Max. 2 absencies per semester allowed.

The final grade based on the result of a written and oral exam.
