Module learning aims: | The objective of the course is Latin language at a basic level, enabling students to undestand selected inscriptions, proverbs, citations originated from different historical periods.Since Latin is a dead language, considerable empfasis is put on the development students' practical skills such as reading and translating from Latin into Polish. Students learn basic vocabulary and are acquainted with the Latin grammar as well as the cultural and pragmatic context. |

Students start the course with zero knowledge of Latin. Therefore, the course is designed to teach basics of the language( vocabulary, syntax, grammar) and gradually develop the students' proficiency, especially translation of original Latin text. |

(in Polish) Za podstawowy materiał nauczania języka łacińskiego przyjmuje się oryginalne teksty bądź fragmenty oryginalnych tekstów, sentencje, napisy, powiedzenia pochodzące z różnych epok. Pochodzenie i rozwój języka łacińskiego.Alfabet. Wymowa. Iloczas. Akcent. Budowa i szyk zdania łacińskiego. Części zdania. Związek zgody, związek rządu, związek przaynależności. Orzeczenie imienne. Przeczenie. Zdania pojedyncze. Zdania współrzędnie złożone (at, et, etiam, aut, autem, deinde, utque). Zdania podrzędnie złożone z orzeczeniem w coniunctivie: celowe, dopełnieniowe, skutkowe Składnia accusativus cum infinitivo, nominativus cum infinitivo, ablativus absolutus, genetivus partitivus, dativus possesssivus, ablativus comparationis,ablativus temporis, nazw miast Deklinacje I, II, III, IV, V Zaimki: osobowe, dzierżawcze, wskazujące, względne, nieokreślone, Participium praesentis activi.Participium perfecti passivi. Learning outcomes: |
At the end of the course and after its successful completion: -students know and use grammatical terminology concerning Latin( morfology, syntax, inflection) - students know and analyze morphological and syntactic structure of Latin - students use different types of information sources - students read correctly Latin text respected phonetic standards - students read correctly Latin poetry respected standards of Latin prosody - students know and use orthographical phenomena - students understand and know the vocabulary include in the course - students built short, simple sentences, use punctation marks, are able to create a short and logical text -students are able to translate a fragment of original Latin text, inscriptions, proverbs, citations students know the importance of Latin language and culture to European and Polish culture and tradition |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The prerequisite for the completion of the course is passing all the control tests (min. 60%), handing in all the written assignments and taking an active part in the classes (possible two unexcused absences per semester); the final mark is based on the outcome of the final written test (<60% - ndst, 60-70% -dst, 71-75% - dst+, 76-85% - db, 86-90% - db+, >91% bdb). |
