International communication has a long history. Several ethnic languages were used in international context. There are big world languages functionning as lingua francas. The need to communicate gave birth to pidgins and creoles. The EU with all its citizens is multi-lingual and encourages language diversity. At the same time EU citizens increasingly communicate internationally in English but is the English they use English? Which are the alternatives? How can contrbute a planned language? This elective concentrates on various kinds of international and interlanguage communication patterns to increase language awareness of students and to introduce them to communication issues at large. |
