  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Module learning aims:

Student gains basic knowledge on historical changes at the Korean Peninsula from ancient times up to present. Understands neigbouring countries' influence on Korea and knows what the effects of such influence were. Gains skills necessary to understand Korean national identity, knows Korean political and historical situation, knows Korean people famous for their historical activities.

Full description:

The course is an introduction to history of Korea from ancient times to present. Brief introduction to the political situation at the Korean Peninsula from I century BC until VII century (Three Kingdoms). Times of Unified Silla and Paekche (VII - X century). Goryeo Kingdom and its political dependence on China. Times of Joseon, Japanese and Mongolian invasions. Creation of Korean Empire at the brink of centuries XIX and XX). Japanese anexation from 1910 - 1945 and creation of two Korean countries. South Korean contemporary history from 1948 until 2008 (focus on Korean War /1950-1953/ and political changes around the country).

Learning outcomes:

The student has a detailed knowledge of the history of Korea and the historical and cultural associations of the country with neighboring countries, gains knowledge of the history of Korea, and the common roots of Korea, China and Japan along with the use of literature and other sources of information. Can analyze the causes and effects of events history, is aware of the value of historical and cultural heritage of the common heritage of Korea and combined korean-chinese-japanese heritage.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Methods of assessment: tests, the final test.

Conditions: activity during classes, execution of the tasks assigned by the teacher, passing all the tests of partial and final test (minimum 61%). 3 unexcused absences per semester.

Final evaluation: based on partial tests, performance of tasks assigned, final test (evaluation criteria: <61% - ndst, 61-70% - dst, 71-75% - dst +, 76-85% - db, 86-90% - db + ,> 90% - very good)
