  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;

Module learning aims:

The subject of serial classes is descriptive grammar of Modern Greek language. Students who attend the classes, obtain gnowledge about Modern Greek grpahis system, phonetics, phonology, morphology and parts of speech. The studenta are able to use the theoretical knowledge which they obtaibned, in practical use of language

Short description:

The subject is targeted at the 2nd year students of Modern Greek Philology. It covers some issues concerning the basic assumptions on the description of Modern Greek grammar, as well as some of the most important facts from the history of the Greek language. The description of the language structure covers the following topics: phonetics, morphology and the most basic issues concerning the Modern Greek syntax. This subject will be continued during the 3rd year of studies.

Full description:

The aim of this subject is to introduce students to the basics of the descriptive grammar of Modern Greek and to acquaint them with the grammatical concepts of the Greek language. Students become acquainted with the most significant facts from the history of the Greek language and they analyze the Greek graphic and phonetic systems as well as the most important phonetic phenomena which occur in Modern Greek. Then students are introduced to the basics of the Greek morphology. The first two semesters are devoted to the study of the Greek definite and indefinite article, noun, pronoun, adjective, numeral, adverb and verb in indicative mood, in active and passive voice of all tenses. Simultaneously, students touch upon the most basics issues of Modern Greek syntax, which will be elaborated in this subject during the 3rd year of studies. The classes have theoretical as well as practical character, which means that students become acquainted with the theory of the Modern Greek grammar and thanks to many exercises they are able to test their knowledge.

Learning outcomes:

Student i) knows and use Polish and Greek terminology concerning Modern Greek morphology, inflecton, syntax and textology, ii) knows and use terms describing units and levels of language description of Modern Greek and Polish language, iii) enumerates types of sentences and analyze their structure, iv) knows nad enumerate parts od Modern Greek sentences and recognize them in texts, v) describes word order and its conditiions in Modern Greek language, vi) classyfies and describes semantic patterns of Modern Greek lexicon, vii) knows and use basic Modern Greek phraseology, viii) knows sociolect, dialectical and pragmatic complexity of Modern Greek language, ix) knows and classifies types of text, x) analyses gramamtical amnd semantic structure of sentences and texts.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Ongoing control of teaching results in the form of written tests. Written final exam.

Partucular conditions needed to obtain positive note:

- regular class attending (max. 4 hours of unexcused absence per semester),

- positive nots of all partial tests (alltogether min. 3 written partial tests, note criteria: <61% - not passed (2), 61-70% - passed (3), 71-75% - passed + (3+), 76-85% - well (4), 86-90% - well + (4+), >90% - very well),

- positive note of final written test.
