Short description:	The overview of main theories explaining social deviation and pathology. Travis Hirschi's theory of social control. Causes of homelessness. Homelessness as pathological phenomenon. Marginalization of the homeless. Determinants of drug abuse. Drug abuse in Poland. Research on drug abuse. Consequences of drug abuse. Ways of treatment. Pathological families: causes and consequences; research on home pathology; home violence Violence, types of violence. Determinants of violent behavior. Violence in everyday and institutional life. Crime: as a phenomenon, determinants of crime, organized crime. Youth violence. Theories explaining the causes of adult and juvenile crime. Types of juvenile criminal behavior. Self-destructive behavior: social and civilization causes. Manifestations of self-destruction. Examples. Suicide as a kind of self-destruction. Dynamics of suicidal behavior. Suicidal attempts and their causes. Social marginalization and its causes. Marginal groups.
Full description:	Students learn chosen social theories explaining causes, course and consequences of main deviations and pathologies in contemporary social life; their specific character, dynamics, research results on determinants of Polish social pathologies, particularly of the political transition period.
