Providing students with knowledge about the problem of collective memory and tradition

Providing students with knowledge about contemporary, interdisciplinary collective memory and tradition research

Providing students with knowledge about the cultural and political background of changes in contemporary societies’ s attitude towards the past

Acquainting students with identification and description of cultural processes affecting changes in the collective memory and tradition of modern societies

Tematyka zajęć dotyczy szeroko pojętej problematyki tradycji i pamięci zbiorowej. Szczególny nacisk spoczywa na ukazaniu przemian tradycji w kulturze współczesnej ( w tym zwłaszcza w kulturze polskiej) z punktu widzenia badań kulturoznawczych i antropologicznych.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

Have orientation in ways of defining collective memory and tradition

Have theoretical knowledge about modern theories of collective memory and tradition

Have knowledge about the role of various disciplines in the humanities in the analysis of the collective memory as a cultural phenomenon

Have the ability to indicate cultural processes affecting changes in the tradition of modern societies

Have the ability to critically read scientific texts and to analise other cultural texts

Have the ability to make a comparative analysis of scientific texts

Can point out the differences between the concepts in conducting research on the relationship to the past in modern societies

Have awareness of the complexity of the problem of the political impact on the tradition

Take part in discussion about research on the subject of tradition

A/5 EXCELLENT - outstanding performance

B/4+ VERY GOOD - above the average standard with only minor errors

C/4 GOOD - generally sound work with some minor errors

D/3+ SATISFACTORY - fair but with a number of notable errors

E/3SUFFICIENT - fair but with significant shortcomings

F/2 FAIL
